In its Friday orders on 1/27/12, the Texas Supreme Court issued decisions in two cases. In one case, the court held that a second lawsuit was barred by collateral estoppel. In the second case, the court held that the injured plaintiff, who was "leased" to the defendant company by an employee-leasing company, could not recover from the defendant company, but only under the company's worker's comp policy.
The court also granted review in six cases. Two of the cases look to be the most significant. One of them involves interpretation of joint operating agreeement in the oil-and-gas context, while the other involves proper valuation of land in a condemnation suit.
